There were many famous women in the 19th century. Women were writers and mathematicians. They were also rulers and explorers The following is a list of some of the great women of the 19th century.
Mary Kies 1752-1837
Mary Kies was the first American woman to be granted a patent

Jane was a great writer
Elizabeth Fry 1780-1845
Elizabeth was a great prison reformer
Henriette D’Angeville 1794-1871
In 1838 Henriette became the first woman to climb Mount Blanc unaided

Mary was a writer. She is famous for her novel Frankenstein.

She campaigned for women’s rights

She is famous for her book Uncle Tom’s Cabin

In Britain, Grace Darling helped her father row a little boat 1 mile through a storm to rescue 5 people from a steamship that had struck rocks. She became a heroine.

In 1849 she was the first woman in the USA to qualify as a doctor. In 1859 she became the first woman to have her name entered in the British General Medical Council’s medical register.

In the 19th century, irons were just slabs of metal with handles on top. You heated the iron until it was hot. At first, irons were made in one piece. The handle got hot and could burn your hand, but in 1871, Mary patented an iron with detachable wooden handles, making ironing easier.
Agnes Marshall 1855-1905
Cookery writer Agnes Marshall was known as The Queen of Ices. She is widely regarded as the inventor of the ice cream cone.
