I went to Krakow for a short break in September. It was a beautiful city with very pretty architecture. The streets were very clean, and I felt safe all the time. Food and drink were reasonably cheap, and to my surprise, everyone I spoke to spoke English. There were plenty of nice restaurants. I also loved the ice cream!
Krakow has many attractions. Among them is the Cloth Hall. The Town Hall Tower is well worth a visit. It’s a bit of a climb to the top if you are an old person like me, but it’s well worth it. St Mary’s Basilica is beautiful. The Jewish Quarter is also a very interesting area.
Near Krakow is the Wieliczka Salt Mine. You can get a guided tour. It’s very interesting even if you are not particularly interested in salt! The mine has existed since the 13th century, so looking around it is like a tour of Polish history.
Another museum is the Archaeological Museum of Kraków. It’s well worth a visit. A very popular museum is Oskar Schindler’s Enamel Factory.
Another good place to visit is Wavel Castle. Don’t miss the Wawel Dragon (Smok Wawelski), a fire-breathing sculpture.
No visit to Krakow would be complete without a guided tour of Auschwitz. It is, obviously, a very sombre place but I am glad I went. It’s important to remember such terrible things.
Although it’s quite a large city, Krakow also has beautiful parks.
I would definitely recommend a visit to Krakow! If it were a student, I would give it an A+.
